Dr. Catherine Sledge, dentist and co-owner of Carter Sledge Family Dentistry, received her D.M.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s School of Dentistry in 2011. She has been practicing dentistry since that time, and has been performing laser releases of tongue ties and other tethered oral tissues since 2013. Dr. Sledge is one of the only doctors in the state of Mississippi who uses laser technology to treat tongue-tie, with no need for anesthesia. In addition, Dr. Sledge is a continuing education speaker to other medical professionals about this topic. In 2020, she founded the Mississippi Tongue Tie Center.
Dr. Sledge first became interested in ties after the birth of her first son. At the beginning of their breastfeeding journey, Dr. Sledge realized that she was uniquely positioned, based on her training as an oral physician and her passion for early feeding success for babies, to help babies grow and thrive through treating their tethered oral tissues. At that time, she began to seek out training opportunities and continuing education on the topic. Now she is able to lecture as an expert to other professionals, sharing her expertise so that more babies and families can be given the best foundation for health.
She is a member of the American Dental Association, Mississippi Dental Association, Mississippi Association of Women Dentists, International Affiliation of Tongue Tie Professionals (IATP), and American Laser Study Club.
Dr. Sledge is married to financial advisor Taylor Sledge of Sledge and Company, and they have three sons, one of whom she treated for tongue tie. Their family enjoys traveling and having adventures together!
